Resting between the Norfolk broads and the Suffolk coastline, the seaside town of Gorleston offers residents the perfect mix of natural beauty and modern living. History of the area

Gorleston was originally a site of Roman occupation and may have served as a ceremonial location for druids prior to that. Known as “Gorlestuna” in the Domesday book, the seaside town’s name could translate to “girls town or girls settlement.” In more recent history, Gorleston experienced the highest wind speeds ever recorded in the UK during the Great Storm of 1987 – reaching a record high of 122mph!

Despite its position along the coast, Gorleston is well-connected for locals and commuters alike. With the A47 and A149 within reach, drivers can easily access Norwich, Ipswich and Cambridge. Meanwhile, nearby Great Yarmouth station provides regular rail services to Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford, Cambridge and London Liverpool Street. Local bus routes also connect the town to nearby villages and Norwich.

With the seaside just a stone’s throw away, spending a day at the beach is a must for sun lovers and arcade fans alike. Families can enjoy an exciting day at the outdoor amusement park Pop’s Meadows or a water-soaked afternoon at Gorleston Splash Pad. For a quieter experience, catch a show at the Palace Cinema or the Edwardian Pavilion Theatre. For the adventurous, Gorleston is the perfect spot for windsurfing, surfing and bodyboarding.
